Child sexual abuse is unfortunately a frequent phenomenon. It is estimated that one in four girls has been sexually abused by age 18 years. A study investigated the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases in children with suspected sexual abuse. The study included 409 children (360 girls) under 13 years of age. Sexually transmitted diseases were identified in 54 (13%) children. Forty-six children had gonorrhea, six had syphilis, four had trichomonas, and three had condyloma acuminata.
