Hymenal tags are seen in 6% to 13% of female neonates. The tags are smooth, firm, pink nodules protruding from the margin of the hymen. The most common location is the dorsal margin of the hymen near the fourchette. Sometimes, more than one tag is present. Most hymenal tags resolve spontaneously during the first few weeks of life as the maternal estrogen effect wanes. By age 3 years, up to 68% of tags have resolved spontaneously but new ones may develop. No specific treatment is necessary. Persistence should be evaluated by biopsy.
