Cromolyn sodium inhibits degranulation of mast cells. Thus it is useful in the prevention of allergic rhinitis when used before exposure to an allergen. This makes it useful in the management of seasonal allergic rhinitis. Cromolyn sodium can be safely used in pregnancy and by small children. It is not useful in the management of nonallergic rhinitis.
