Universal Precautions in the Clinic

In 1987 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention brought forth recommendations regarding the handling of blood products. These guidelines are referred to as universal precautions. Since 1992 they have also been applied to the otolaryngology clinic under the supervision of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. These guidelines require appropriate protective barrier precautions and handling and disposal of infective materials.
