Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is the result of phlebitis spreading from the ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses. The eye becomes proptotic and chemotic, and the eyelid is edematous. Involvement of cranial nerves III, IV, and VI causes ophthalmoplegia.
